A page featuring galleries and links for cycle tours undertaken during July 2024.
I ride regularly, and I do not necessarily post a web page for each tour I do.
I do post to Facebook, Garmin Connect, Strava and occasionally to Komoot and Instagram.
Zwischen den Bahnen in Gö – July 30 2024
We followed a heavily modified version of the Gö Gravel social ride of July 18, entitled Zwischen den Bahnen by Chris the route planner.
We rode out to the West of Gö returning to the city via the Dransfelder Ramp a now abandoned railway.
It was joyous to be riding on a warm summer´s evening. It was also wonderful to ride through cool German forests and away from the heat.

Gö Roadie Chemin Blanc Omloop 2 – July 28 2024
Riding an almost similar course is an effective way to check on my health and fitness, although I added a sector of mild gravel (16 in total) all being road bike capable.
Comparing my data from July 16, I rode at a higher heart rate, and I was able to attack the asphalt and carry that speed onto the gravel with greater confidence. The route is mostly asphalt and this is a good place to build endurance.
My increased pace might also be explained because I rode my race oriented Handsling gravel bike with deep section wheels. It felt fast and is fast!
I did get a bit lonely though….

Gö Gravel Social Ride – July 25 2024
A ride to the northwest of Gö designed by Chris on some cool gravel and the Gö Gravel group was comprised of Chris, Ann, Johannes L, Stefan, and Josh.
I rode with the group for the first 10kms and then dropped off, not because it was a super-fast pace but more, I must watch not to strain my heart and staying at 150bpm would have been daft!

Gö Roadie Chemin Blanc Omloop – July 16 2024
Riding asphalt offers the opportunity to turn the pedals consistently to get into a rhythm, and to find a smooth cadence.
Gravel or off-road cycling in contrast is often about extremes and sudden changes of pace which can wear you down. Not good if you want to keep your heart rate steady.
As part of my heart attack recovery, I ride a familiar route so I can judge my performance, and it is near to people so if I get into trouble, I am less isolated (more of a mental thing).
But me being me and still buzzing from the stage 9 of the Tour de France (featuring Chemin Blanc) I can´t help but turn onto the gravel none of which on this ride is hard core although it still must be respected. I have in the past ridden all 15 sectors with 25 or 28mm road tyres (and most on a road bike). On this day I had the luxury of 30mm slicks which did help me to keep holding a steady cadence.

White Socks in Gö – July 14 2024
The dry sunny weather on this day allowed me the pleasure of wearing white socks and shoes, when it is muddy I opt to wear heavier black socks.
It was also another ride putting fitness in my recovery bank.

Stalking the Gö Gravel Social Ride – July 11 2024
We waved away the group and then we had fun seeing if we could catch sight of them at different locations.
Our merry crew were Konstantin, Jonas R, Ann-Christin, Dirk, Henny, Lydia, and Johannes (SlowJoe) plus Andrea, the latter joining me as we chased the group cheering them on.
Later at the ice cream parlour we joined many of our brethren who had just completed their own rides.

Reha Commute – July 9 2024
For 15 days I have been attending a Reha (rehab) clinic after my heart attack, this involved a 4km commute each way. The commute wasn´t without interest featuring forest tracks and a stretch of cobbles meaning I have ridden all Göttingen has to offer.
Drifting my front wheel in the forest mud after it rained was a highlight.
Both forest and cobbles were great fun on my commute bike, and which becomes almost invisible in amongst the rest at the bike parking.
